Looking to help
a loved one?

Here are some tips for helping a loved one quit...

  • Tell them you love them. Tell them how much you care about them, and offer your support from the very beginning.

  • Ask them what they need from you to help them quit. Maybe they need you to be a support system in case they are about to slip or maybe they need to take up a new hobby to get their mind off of smoking. Either way--ask!

  • Be a motivator! Help them think positively about quitting and how much better they will feel. Always tell them you believe in them.

  • Be understanding and patient. Nicotine is a drug, and withdrawal symptoms are common. They might be irritable, grumpy, tired, and short tempered. Remember, this is only temporary!

  • Offer to do something nice for them. Take them out to dinner, do the dishes, or buy them a favorite snack. They will appreciate it!
