We are interested in developing a network of people who are supportive of tobacco-free initiatives, such as petitioning for smoke-free restaurants, contacting elected officials, etc. This means that we contact you (usually via e-mail) with informational pieces and advocacy requests asking you to send an e-mail or to make a telephone call about once every three months. If you think you would be interested in signing up for this network, please contact the Tobacco Free coordinator at 724-222-6511.

Comments From Grass Roots Advocates:
"The cost of tobacco is very high on an individual, loved one's and society. It is an unnecessary risk that is very costly."

"In short, it is SMART to stop smoking because of the effects it causes to one's brain. But it is also understandable why it is so hard to quit. With nicotine being a feel good drug, the battle to fight addiction will be hard, but studies show why it is so important to prevent the addiction."

"I know it sounds tough, but I do believe companies should have the right to hire non-smokers and require current smokers to quit within a certain time frame, but also believe companies should offer smoking cessation programs with incentives to help their employees quit."

"Each year health care cost increase. Tobacco is the number one cause for these increases. It is not fair that I have to pay an increased premium for health care when I am a non-tobacco person. Individuals need to take responsibility for their actions an not expect others to help support their health for the habit they chose. The first responsibility for a healthy life start with the individual, they need to make the right choices for a healthy life. If their choice is to smoke, while knowing the many dangers, they should be held responsible and accountable."
